Schiller, seated on the sofa, froze for a moment. He saw a bizarre figure in a black skull mask rush in, holding a handgun in both hands and aiming it at Gordon, who was seated on the sofa to the side.

The reason he was called famous rather than legendary was that Black Mask's popularity could not compare to that of the Four Heavenly Kings: Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Two-Face. He was not entirely an intelligence-based villain either, and his Character Design somewhat overlapped with another villain's.
"Roman." Schiller called his name. Even if he had not known that Black Mask was actually Roman Sionis in the comics, the intruder's voice made it clear that he was the youth who had previously come to Schiller for a recommendation letter—and who was actually the murderer in the hospital homicide case.
