Clark carried Bat-Cat through the streets of Gotham and let out a soft sigh.

"All right, I can understand why they don't want someone from Metropolis involved in a local murder case. It would hurt their city's reputation. But I don't think I'd be completely useless. If the killer turns out to be too vicious, I can help knock him out."

"Actually, they just think you can't deduce anything," Bat-Cat said. "And you have absolutely no idea how those lunatics operate."

"What is there to figure out?" Clark shook his head. "Find the killer and knock him unconscious with one punch. Does that require some complicated procedure?"

"Why don't you get it yet? Gotham is a playground for lunatics. Everyone here is obsessed with these crazy, bizarre cases and enjoys the process of solving them. It's like how everyone knows a carousel only goes around in circles, yet plenty of people are still willing to pay for a ticket."

Clark shook his head in disagreement. "They make everything too complicated. The killer comes up with a whole series of elaborate plans, and the police and detectives make another series of plans to crack them. Why can't they just keep things simple?"

"If they were all as simple-minded and easily satisfied as Metropolis people, Gotham wouldn't be what it is today," Bat-Cat commented.

"Forget it. Professor Schiller called me earlier and said he'd opened a new bookstore. I'll go take a look. One of my coworkers has a birthday next month, and a hardcover book should make a nice gift."

Clark quickened his pace. Following the address Schiller had given him over the phone, he crossed Gotham's central roundabout and turned onto one of the commercial streets.
