In a valley in Greenwich, Constantine and his group found the Dark Tomb where Deadman Boston Brand lived in seclusion. Constantine crouched before the wooden cellar door, grabbed the handle, and knocked. Before long, a pale hand reached out from within the tomb.
Deadman Boston stuck out half his body. The moment he saw Constantine's face, the tomb door slammed shut with a bang.
"You're even less welcome than I thought," Red Robin remarked.
"I'm used to being rejected." Constantine curled his lip unconcernedly. As he reached out to knock again, he called, "Boston, old friend, you'd better open up, or I'll have Jim chop this place to pieces!"
"Don't listen to him. I wouldn't do that." Night Master Jim stepped forward and crouched by the door. "Mr. Deadman, we do need your help with something, but it's entirely within your abilities."
A few seconds later, the door opened again. Boston stood in the passageway and looked up at them, his eyes glowing with a faint blue light. He nodded and said in a dull voice, "Come in."
Constantine jumped into the underground passage first, followed by Night Master Jim and Bennett, who had turned into a bat. Red Robin hesitated. He did not think jumping into someone else's grave was particularly polite, but when he forced himself to jump in, he discovered there was far more to the place than met the eye.
Beyond the narrow, dark underground passage was a fully furnished modern apartment. It even had windows for natural light, except multicolored fragments of space drifted outside them.
