Toward evening, Natasha met Stark in one of Nick's secret safe houses. After looking him over from head to toe, she said, "I never thought you could break out of prison without getting hurt even without your armor."

"What did you think I would do? Put on the Iron Man suit and start trading punches with them? This was a legal bail release." As Stark adjusted the microscope, he said, "If I didn't want to go to prison, no one could put me there. Pepper has already assembled a legal team. You were right—only if I stay alive can I find Rhodey's real killer."

"You should have thought that way sooner." Natasha folded her arms, but she was not leaning lazily against the wall as usual. Clearly, the current situation had put even her under some pressure. She said, "What are you planning to do next? Do you have any leads? Is there anything you need me to do?"

"Rhodey's family doesn't want to see me, and I have no face to see them either. Now that I've chosen to fight this through legal means, they must be terribly disappointed in me. But the clues they provided are crucial."

Stark stopped what he was doing and looked seriously at Natasha. "If you want to help, go back to your old trade. Find a way to ask Rhodey's wife and son whether they saw anyone suspicious that night."

Natasha frowned. "You should know that if there had been any other suspect, Pepper would never have allowed the police to take you out of Stark Tower. Your legal team would have torn them apart immediately."

"Are you suspecting me?"

"If I suspected you, I wouldn't have come here to see you. I'm in just as much danger as you are." Natasha stepped
