After hearing the noise, Amanda, already panicked, tried to turn and run upstairs, but Oliver grabbed her and pulled her down the stairs by the wrist.
"Quiet. Did you hear those gunshots just now?"
Amanda shook her head blankly.
"The drug dealers fired them." Oliver judged accurately. "They're using old guns. The rifling is badly worn, so the report is different from the Standard Equipment carried by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. It's duller."
Amanda stopped, frowning. "They fired? Why would they fire?"
"For them, stealthy assassination is the best approach. The disaster isn't over yet, and people don't dare head to other floors recklessly. As long as they target the people on the second floor, they can complete their objective and get the gold coins." Oliver analyzed.
"If they fire, the crowd on the first floor might rush up to the second, and the people on the second might flee down to the first. Then everything would be completely chaotic, and it would be impossible for them to lock onto their targets." Amanda caught on as well. "So unless absolutely necessary, they would never fire."
"So we need to check the first floor."
Amanda gripped the railing tightly. "Schiller went to the first floor, right?"
"How do you think I got you out?" After looking around, Oliver said, "I knocked you to the ground and meant to drag you away, but then I realized you'd passed out. That meant I couldn't get you out unless I took Schiller down head-on."
"Just as I was preparing to clash with him, some fool rushed up the stairs. When he saw the corpse Schiller had left there, he was so frightened that he turned and ran. Schiller went after him, and that was how I was able to move you to safety."
