Schiller looked at the busy doctors and nurses and said, "I can't see her medical records right now, but if I'm not mistaken, the fetus in her womb was neither entirely healthy nor entirely unhealthy. Its condition likely fluctuated repeatedly."

Schiller lowered his voice. "In my experience, there may indeed have been some initial problem with the fetus. The mother became worried and anxious over it, and those emotions escalated without receiving timely treatment."

"So the problems the fetus displayed later on were very likely external manifestations of the mother's emotional and hormonal fluctuations. Since her hormones and emotions were unstable, the condition kept recurring, and no cause could be found."

"Gynecology people are always like this. They think that having a pregnant woman with a huge belly cross half the hospital to see a psychiatrist is too much trouble, and no one would be able to take responsibility if something went wrong, so they don't recommend active treatment."
