"Oh, Doctor, you're back. Did you sleep well?"

"Not bad." Schiller yawned, sat down in his chair, and glanced at the ward-round records on his desk. Every page was brief, indicating that nothing unusual had happened.

"Did anything happen while I was gone?"

Schiller had only asked out of routine, but Vian said, "The front desk of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Inpatient Department called for you. I told him you would call back later."

Schiller nodded, picked up the phone, dialed the extension for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and asked the front desk, "Hello, this is Schiller. My student told me I received a call from your department. What is it about?"

The more Schiller listened, the deeper his frown became, but he said nothing and merely replied, "All right. Please tell them it would be my honor."

After setting down the phone, Schiller fell into thought. Just then, Charles walked in. Schiller gave Vian a look, and he left, leaving only Schiller and Charles in the office.

The moment Charles saw the phone in Schiller's hand, he knew he had been found out. Yet he did not sense any anger around Schiller. Though he could not read minds, his abilities had grown powerful enough that he could clearly perceive someone's emotions without intruding on their brainwaves at all. But Schiller truly was not angry. If anything, he was simply a little helpless.

"Charles, I know your abilities are powerful, and I'm not saying that using them this way harms ordinary people. I know your intentions were good, and you gave them the best possible outcome, but I'm afraid things are not as simple as you think."
