Gordon lay in bed with his eyes closed, but the radio crackled intermittently beside his ear. It was his only device for hearing news from the outside world, and it was broadcasting reports about the Claw Killer.
When he heard that the family of four had been safely rescued from the house, and that the little girl targeted by the killer had only suffered a cut on her leg and was not in mortal danger, Gordon let out a sigh of relief.
But then he heard that they still had not caught the dangerous killer. Gordon clenched the bedsheet tightly, pain showing on his face. When he heard that Ge Yin was the officer in charge of the operation, his expression turned dazed again.
He remembered that when the young woman had first arrived at the station, she had known nothing. But she was clever and learned quickly. He would never forget Ge Yin, finally made Sheriff, crying beside his bed as she said she could not find the person who had shot him.
Of course she could not find him.
Gordon turned to look at the framed photograph on the nightstand. There were four people in it: Gordon, Bruce, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne.
Back then, he had failed to find the murderer who had killed Mr. and Mrs. Wayne as well.
He had brought all of this upon himself.
Hugging the radio close again, Gordon used his only movable hand to change the station, wanting to hear the whole story again from another program. It was the only thing he could do while lying in bed, and the only thing Bruce allowed him to do.
How was this not a kind of punishment? Back then, he had failed to find the killer who had murdered this boy's parents.
