Schiller held a stack of case files in his arms, head lowered as he sorted through which ones he needed. Numerous boxes sat at his feet, along with bundles of tied-up files and a large pile of books.
The entire office was a scene of chaotic upheaval. Victor was busy pulling out the wires from beneath the desk, while Anna picked through the sculptures that had previously been stored in the cabinets.
"Have you finished packing up your own office?" Victor looked up and said, "There are at most two more truck runs this afternoon. They won't be coming tomorrow, so if you're not done, you need to hurry."
"I finished moving yesterday," Schiller said. "That shredder couldn't be packed with these documents. Yesterday, I asked a truck-driver friend to help me move it. Good thing I did—I might not have been able to beat that shredder on my own."
Victor laughed and continued working. "So you did end up passing Bruce's doctoral application review. What nice thing did he give you this time?"
Schiller cleared his throat. "What he gave me is beside the point. The important thing is that he finally found a Batman worse than he is."
"Oh, there really is one?" Victor made an exaggerated expression. "I thought he'd never find one."
"His luck was remarkably good." Schiller tossed the unneeded files aside. "I happened to witness how this one Batman worse than him directed a steaming pile of garbage and took pride in it. That seriously dragged down Batman's average standard, which in turn lowered the threshold for doctoral applications benchmarked against that average."
"I knew it would be something like that." Victor wound the cables around his arm. "I've been waiting for Pamela's doctoral application, but my inbox is completely empty. Do you think
