Interesting, Schiller thought.
He stood outside Room 1903, listening to the sounds coming from within. He could clearly sense that the speaker was standing right by the door. Just like the man in Room 1901, his nose had to be practically pressed against the door for his voice to carry like that.
But no feet were visible through the gap beneath the door, which meant there was something wrong with the person inside Room 1903 as well.
The person in Room 1901 wanted Schiller to open the door for him, while the person in Room 1903 insisted that Schiller absolutely must not open it.
Most people would choose between the two rooms. Many would lean toward Room 1903, because he certainly sounded like a normal person. But even if Schiller saw legs and feet through the gap, he would not easily trust the person in Room 1903.
Or rather, this person was even less trustworthy than the one in Room 1901. Both he and Peter had seen this person and heard him speak, yet contradictions had appeared in him. That was not something an ordinary person could manage. It was only a matter of time before someone like that went wrong.
Now, clues had appeared in Rooms 1900, 1901, 1903, and 1904. That left only Room 1902, which had provided no clues at all. Schiller walked over to its door. He did not believe the room was simply empty.
Schiller first looked up at the room number plaque. He had already confirmed this while unscrewing the screws earlier. Aside from Room 1900, none of the plaques on the right side had been tampered with. The screw marks showed they had only ever been screwed in once, so the problem should not have been with the plaques.
There was nothing to
