Jack always seemed half-asleep. His voice was as hoarse as ever, yet it carried a distant haze, as though he were not describing himself but telling a bedtime story.

"That's impossible." Heath Joker grew particularly grim. "Batman can never save himself."

"That's why I said it was only a dream." Jack smiled. "All kinds of magical things happen in dreams. What's impossible about that?"

"You're very unusual." Main Universe Joker circled Jack again. "Yet you seem perfectly ordinary. I can't believe you're the Joker corresponding to that Batman. Or do you have some other abnormality?"

"I'm just an ordinary truck driver. What kind of abnormality do you expect me to have?" Jack asked.

Main Universe Joker found this rather troublesome. Even someone like Nappier had weaknesses, because he always wanted to prove something. Calm on the outside, turbulent within, just like Batman.

The Jokers were always confident when facing opponents like that. Hadn't he worked with the other two Jokers to shake Nappier's state of mind?

But Jack was different. He did not seem to want to express anything, nor did he take pride in his unusual existence. He truly seemed ordinary—so ordinary that he did not resemble a madman in the slightest.

He accepted his identity as Joker quite well, without greater pride or complaint. Nor was every word out of his mouth about Batman, like the other Jokers. When he mentioned Batman, there was no unspoken pain in it; it was like mentioning an old friend he had not seen in a long time.

Everything was too calm, like an even calmer abyss beneath a still surface.
