What a rare guest. Schiller opened the door for him, and Gordon didn't stand on ceremony, walking straight to the refrigerator and grabbing a bottle of iced drink. The front and back of his shirt were soaked through with sweat.

"Didn't your car's air conditioning work?" Schiller asked doubtfully.

"Don't remind me. Halfway there, a stretch of asphalt had melted, and a car got stuck in it. I spent ages helping clear it out and felt like I was about to dehydrate."

Gordon drained the entire can of iced drink, wiped his mouth, and said, "Never thought I'd see soda in your refrigerator."

"The kids bought it." Schiller went into the kitchen, poured some water, and set it on the table. "Fortunately, the residents in this neighborhood are all health-conscious, so no one fought them for it. Otherwise, you'd be here to stop an ice-cold Coke war."

Gordon laughed. "They're always like this. I heard Alfred complaining before that the kids drank too many carbonated drinks. I thought you'd limit them too."

"It really isn't good for Dick and the others to drink too much, since they're ordinary people. But these ones are different. I don't think soda will do them any harm." Schiller sat down as he spoke.

That was indeed what he thought. Most of the New Warriors had superpowers, so a few drinks were no big deal. More importantly, the weather was simply too hot. Even with air conditioning, after coming in drenched in sweat from outside, nothing was more comfortable than a sip of an iced drink.

Still, despite saying that, Schiller had never tried it himself, because he had not gone outside at all.
