There was a driver in the car the old white man had left behind. The driver obviously knew Gordon. Gordon handed him a cigarette, and he began to haltingly explain his boss's background.
The guy did not actually have much of a background. He had once been a real estate developer and now mainly ran resorts. He had some connections on the South Side, and his name was Williams.
The land behind Schiller's house had indeed been acquired by a developer before, and it had indeed been designated as public green space. But the company had recently been struggling, so they got greedy and wanted to sell the land again.
Schiller did not know much about the specific legal provisions, but he guessed they had found some loophole. That was nothing unusual for real estate developers, anyway. In any case, the plot was now in his hands, and construction of the resort had already been put on the agenda.
Schiller realized that he seemed to have some kind of renovation curse. Wherever he went, something was under construction. Back when he was at Greed's Arkham Asylum, the Speeder station next door had been under construction for years. Now that he had just moved into a new house, a resort was about to be built nearby too.
Actually, Schiller had no objections to them building a resort by the lake. He had very few entertainment options when he was not working. Going to a restaurant for a meal or playing cards at a club were about all there was. Having a resort right outside his door would be nice; he would not have to go so far whenever he wanted some entertainment.
Of course, the construction process might be annoying. But the woods were still quite a distance from the house,
