"If I said I didn't know what was going on either, would you believe me?" Gordon said into the phone. "This is beyond my understanding. I've been doing this for over twenty years..."

After hanging up, Gordon let out a long sigh and turned to ask his subordinate, "Is Mr. Nygma all right? Is he awake now?"

"He woke up while he was still in trouble." Brock came in through the door, took the cigarette from his mouth, and said, "He probably wants to see you. You'd better hurry up and figure out how you're going to explain this."

"What do I need to explain? He was practically dead at the time." Though he said that, Gordon still tried to calm himself before adding, "I admit this was a mistake on our part, but he'd better provide some useful leads too. Otherwise, I'm not spending any more time with him."

Brock shook his head without saying anything. He went downstairs to drive, and on the way to the hospital, he asked, "You've been looking into something from ten years ago?"

"You think I'm afraid of being watched?" Gordon snorted. "I wasn't scared when dozens of gangsters' guns were pointed at my head. Now a few sewer rats think they can threaten me?"
