After hearing Schiller's speculation, Batman nodded. The evidence was not sufficient, but the logic held together.
"Then we can infer Pale Rider's backstory from that." Schiller spoke as he thought, clearly combining Pale Rider's behavior in the comics with the behavioral logic he had displayed so far to guess what kind of backstory he would make up.
"He may have come here for a case too," Batman speculated. "Since he's a lawyer, he may have come to gather evidence. Perhaps it has something to do with the Wanderer as well. He may be investigating the Wanderer's patterns to present evidence in a future trial."
But Schiller shook his head.
"No, I'm guessing the backstory he made up wasn't entirely about personal gain." Schiller recalled the comics related to Pale Rider and said, "You may not believe it, but he's someone who believes in love."
"What?"
"I said he believes in love."
Schiller deliberately watched Batman's face, and sure enough, he did not miss the expression gradually cracking across it.
"Do you have any additional intelligence?" Batman could not help asking. He had to admit that the information Schiller had just dropped was explosive enough to interest him greatly.
"Of course I do. But what do you intend to trade for it?"
Batman paused slightly. So this was where Schiller had been leading him. He did still have cards he had not played, but he could not hand them over now. After thinking for a moment, he said, "What do you want in exchange?"
"May I ask you a few questions?"
"No."
Batman refused so decisively that even Schiller froze. His fingers tapped the tabletop as he said, "Would you refuse other Schillers that decisively too?"
Batman actually considered the question seriously, then shook his head. "Maybe not. I mean, there
