"Then let's talk about Madeline." Schiller spoke again. "I think you must have noticed that Madeline wasn't normal either. In fact, I strongly suspect that this seemingly pitiful woman was the real murderer behind the massacre that wiped out her family."

Batman finally snapped back to attention. Since Schiller had begun speculating, he asked, "Why do you suspect that?"

"Because of that research notebook."

Here it comes at last, Batman thought. Sure enough, every Schiller could infer the truth directly from the tiniest scraps of clues.

When Schiller mentioned the research notebook, Batman assumed that he could only have reached the conclusion that Madeline was the culprit through the Psychoanalytic Method.

There was actually nothing wrong with that notebook. It was insufficient evidence for judging someone's personality. Yet Schiller had still said it, which meant he might have empathized with something.

Schiller shook his head. "I was only summarizing. If you insist on details, I can say that Madeline's wording carried an obvious God's perspective—broad and objective."

Schiller leaned back in his chair and recalled, "Everyone lives in the first person, so when they describe what they have seen, their accounts are inevitably subjective."

"For example, when murderers confess to their crimes, they conceal things. Some do it deliberately to lessen their guilt, but some do it unconsciously."

"Among those unconscious omissions, some happen because their brains beautify themselves, while others come from the information gap created by subjective perspective."
