Beneath the sheet of paper lay a book. Its cover had the texture of parchment and looked like something from the last century. The title was Sailor Pick's Diary.

Schiller opened the book and found that many pages were missing. Setting aside those gaps, the contents could roughly be summarized as follows: a man named Pick boarded a large ship and became a sailor. Along the way, they encountered a storm, but fortunately, they made landfall in time under the guidance of a lighthouse.

The passage had neither beginning nor end and made little sense. If it had any connection at all, it might have been related to the village's lighthouse. But with so much missing, there was no way to tell whether the lighthouse they encountered was the Great Snow-Covered Lighthouse.

Yet Schiller instinctively felt that the story was important, because the section with the most pages torn out was the description of the storm.
