Schiller returned to the Underground Cave and followed the path he had taken before to Greed's laboratory, successfully using the pass to enter it.
After walking inside, he first glanced at the glass tank containing Dougert's corpse. The solution clearly prevented coagulation and kept blood active; it could even reactivate the blood in a corpse. Strands of blood drifted around Dougert's body.
The fish swam happily around it. Some hungry fish ate the rotting pieces that had fallen from the corpse. Schiller found nothing unusual about the fish for the time being, nor did he find any experimental reports nearby. It seemed this was simply an experimental subject Greed had used to try his luck.
Heading deeper into the laboratory, Schiller found some materials concerning the monsters in a preparation room. Most of them speculated on the monsters' weaknesses and methods for restraining them.
In a solution room kept at low temperatures, Schiller found two kinds of medicine. One was the blood solvent used to soak Dougert's corpse, seemingly capable of preventing coagulation and keeping blood fresh. The other was an anesthetic with no ingredients listed, but judging by its state, it was a highly concentrated inhaled anesthetic.
Schiller took both medicines, then found some painkillers and injectable stimulants as well.
None of these drugs had specific names, but once they entered his field of vision, their effects were labeled—for example, "An oral painkiller. Take one tablet per 150 pounds. Takes effect immediately."
This was starting to feel a little like a game.
After searching the place, Schiller went to the adjacent equipment storage room. There, he found batteries for the Night Vision Goggles—seven or eight of them, enough to extend their battery life by roughly two days.
Then Schiller found a flashlight and batteries for it. Those would last
