Batman and Stark finally managed to complete the job by the last day after the deadline. They built most of the equipment Schiller needed and simplified the operation process as much as possible, lowering the learning curve so less specialized doctors could use it.
Just as planned, Schiller converted an upgraded operating room into a laboratory department and added a general internal medicine department. The treatment process now closely resembled that of a modern hospital.
Patients first went to the reception desk to briefly describe their symptoms, which was essentially registration at a modern hospital. Some illnesses with obvious symptoms could be sent directly into surgery, while more complicated cases needed further diagnosis in internal medicine or the laboratory department.
After the examinations, they could undergo surgery. After surgery, they went to the Inpatient Department. Once major wounds had mostly healed, they could go home and return later for IV drips.
Under Schiller's management, the hospital's revenue was quite promising. Although the doctors did not receive much in profit-sharing, Schiller invested most of the money back into the hospital's construction. By now, nearly every operating room had been upgraded, and the doctors had better working and resting conditions.
The more troublesome issue was that the hospital still lacked a pharmacy. Some people's illnesses were not serious enough to require surgery or IV drips, or they had other matters to attend to and did not want to stay in the hospital. They just wanted to take some medicine home.
Schiller did not know whether the town had a witch's apothecary. But from what he understood, the residents normally bought potions to drink whenever they fell ill. Specialized potion merchants came by every week to sell medicine, and quite a few people stocked up on potions at home.
