In Schiller's office, he was checking his email. Quite a few students had heard about the incident involving Gotham University's faculty and had emailed to ask after him. Schiller carefully read every email and sent brief replies, telling them he was fine and reminding them to pay attention to food safety.
Looking down from the office window, the straight, broad campus road was empty save for fallen leaves rustling in the wind. With the bustling crowds gone, the place seemed inexplicably lonely.
However, the professors' office building was not far from the stadium, and he could faintly hear the spirited shouts coming from there. In preparation for the competition, neither the Football Team nor the cheerleading squad had taken time off; they were training intensely.
After reading the last email, Schiller leaned back and gently rolled his neck. After taking a sip of water, he glanced at his watch.
He had no more work to deal with. At this hour in the past, he would either arrange to play cards with colleagues at the club or go watch a football game.
Although he had initially begun following football only because he wanted Gotham University to join the Ivy League, after watching for so many years, Schiller had become a loyal fan of Gotham University's varsity team.
Gotham University's football team had always performed quite well, consistently ranking among the leading teams. But when it came to breaking into the very top tier, they always fell just short. Every class had players above average for their age group, yet they never produced anyone truly exceptional.
The varsity team's greatest advantage was its high rate of athletes entering genuine professional leagues. Students intending to pursue that path were quite willing to apply, but after all these years, they had not produced any
