"So you're saying that an evil artificial intelligence created by aliens from an advanced civilization is currently wandering the Solar System, and the Justice League is off duty, so you want me to solve this problem?"

The person on the other end seemed to rattle off a whole lot. Amanda, holding her phone, let out a long sigh.

"Fine, but you know that to deal with an enemy like this, I can't do it without sufficient authority..."

The person on the other end said something else, and Amanda's brow furrowed as a trace of anger appeared on her face.

"Listen, Claude. Federal Shield was established to handle supernatural incidents within the Federation. You want me to fight aliens. Never mind whether I'm capable of it—even if I am, what can I do if the various departments refuse to cooperate?"

"I don't want to hear about your difficulties, and this isn't a negotiation. Providing me with your full support is a necessary condition for accomplishing the objective. If you can't do that, find someone else!"

Amanda hung up, still looking irritated. She paced around her office, cursing those congressmen from the bottom of her heart.

Ever since its establishment, Federal Shield had occupied a rather awkward position.

Most of the people Amanda could hire were not particularly strong. They were enough to deal with ordinary people, but when it came to all kinds of supernatural incidents, both their survival rate and the likelihood of successfully resolving the cases were low. They had never been able to secure much funding.
