"Hello, I've been waiting for you." Schiller got straight to the point with Garrett. "This is urgent, so I'll keep it brief. I'm Director Pierce's—"
Before Schiller could finish, Garrett pulled out a gun and aimed it at him.
Just as he was about to pull the trigger, a muffled gunshot rang out first. A bullet blew a hole through his head, and John Garrett's body slowly toppled over.
Nick emerged from the darkness. Schiller smiled and said, "Nice shooting, Director."
Then he circled Garrett's body once and said, "They've got some nerve, trying to kill someone here. I thought he'd trick me into going outside before making his move..."
Why Nick and Schiller had appeared here, and why they had killed Garrett outright, had to be explained starting with Schiller's plan.
As a transmigrator who had read the original comics, Schiller naturally knew that S.H.I.E.L.D. was practically a Hydra nest. Its former director, Alexander Pierce, was one of Hydra's heads and the leader of Hydra's members within S.H.I.E.L.D.
As for why Pierce had completely vanished and entered total silence, that had to start with Stark and Steve's competition.
When immortals fought, mortals suffered. Whether it was Stark or Steve, whenever they threw themselves fully into something, there was nothing they could not accomplish. Not only would they succeed, but the results would be hundreds of times better than anything ordinary people could achieve.
First, there was the Avengers team Steve had assembled. This generation of Avengers was brimming with talent.
For direct assaults, Steve led Peter on the front lines. When those two superhumans who solved everything with brute force launched an attack, there was no defensive line they could not breach. No matter how strong a Hydra base's defenses were, there was no door Spider-Man and Red Bee
