The Wayne Tower where Batman was now stood had been built while Mr. and Mrs. Wayne were still alive. After so many years, it had grown somewhat outdated. So Elliot had begun planning a new Wayne Tower several years ago. The new building had recently been completed, and he had invited numerous business partners to its completion gala. It was at that very banquet that a corpse fell from the sky, throwing all his arrangements into disarray.
This seemingly insignificant nobody was like the first grain of sand to fall before a mudslide. From that point on, everything veered off its intended course. That was true for everyone.
The death of the League of Assassins assassin had cast a shadow over Elliot and Talia's alliance. Suspecting that the Court of Owls had been responsible, Elliot had also failed to secretly cooperate with the Court of Owls as he had in the original story. It had even affected Jason's attitude toward him. Everything afterward had collapsed in an incredibly short span of time, like a dream at dawn.
Elliot was foolish. He had failed to see the true significance of this murder. But Batman was no fool. Even if dominoes had already fallen everywhere, he still had to find out what had toppled the first one.
Though the new Wayne Tower had been completed, it had not yet officially been occupied. Elliot's death had delayed the move even further. Only the ballroom prepared for the banquet retained any traces of liveliness. But when Batman arrived, its former blaze of lights was gone, leaving only chaotic fragments drowned in darkness.
Batman turned on the lights, but the ballroom remained desolate. Because a murder had occurred, the guests had departed in a frenzy. No one had cleaned up the overturned cups and plates,
