When Peter rushed into the conference room, nearly all the Mutants had arrived. He squeezed through the crowd and saw Magneto standing in the middle of the room, while Cyclops Scott lay beside him. His chest rose and fell faintly, and he appeared to have merely passed out.
Peter wanted to ask what had happened, but seeing everyone remain silent, he suppressed the urge to speak. Only when Professor X appeared in his wheelchair did the stagnant atmosphere finally stir.
"He's fine," Professor X said. "He's just been overly exhausted lately and took a hit from a magnetic field, so he's temporarily unconscious."
Only then did Phoenix rush over and scoop him up. The X-Men gathered around and helped Phoenix carry Cyclops to a bed in the Lounge.
"Call the Avengers," Magneto said. Though he was no longer speaking directly to Peter, Peter knew the order was meant for him, so he went out to make the call.
Before long, the Avengers had all arrived. Even Nick came over. Magneto remained where he was, deep in thought. The Avengers assumed he was battling the Electronic Life and did not dare approach him. It was only about ten minutes later that he slowly turned to look at them.
"I talked to it," Magneto said. "More precisely, this was an accident. We were not its target. But..."
No one present understood what he meant. Professor X gave Magneto a look, and Magneto slowly removed his Helmet. Seeing that, Peter snorted disdainfully. Who said they weren't flirting? Other people exchange wedding rings, while you two exchange a Helmet and a wheelchair?
After pondering for a moment, Professor X said, "So that's how it is. This is rather complicated. Sit down first, and we'll explain it slowly."
