When they first heard the shout, the Justice League and the mages were all somewhat bewildered. Though Trigon had been blasted, he was far from dead. By turn-based logic, this should have been the dialogue phase: ask about his intentions, condemn his objectives, lay out the facts and reason with him, then negotiate and make him retreat for the time being.

Trigon apparently followed the same pattern. After being blasted away, he threw back his head and roared, shouting at the Justice League, "You damned bastards! You... Wait! You bastard in the red cape! What are you doing?!"

In the few seconds he spent shouting, Strange had already collected all the energy fragments scattered by the blast. Trigon looked down and realized that more than half the energy in this avatar was gone. He had not even caught sight of his daughter, yet he had suffered such a crushing loss.

He had never expected the Justice League not to trade insults with him, but to run over and gather energy fragments instead. It had never been like this before. In the past, after the Justice League and Teen Titans temporarily defeated him, he could use the time spent making threats to recover the energy fragments that had been scattered. How had someone gotten to them first this time?

"You..." Trigon held it in for a long while before finally forcing out, "You shameless, despicable human! Give my power back!"

"Who says it's your power? Does it have your name written on it?" Strange rolled his eyes. "I advise you to be sensible. I already have the power, so you'd better sign the contract and lend me some more. Maybe I'll return it someday. If you don't sign, then this will be a permanent loss."

The mages beside him were dumbfounded.
