"This place really is a little too old." Peter looked up. "The layout of a church like this should be from at least two hundred years ago. You can't find churches like this in New York anymore."
Kate also looked up at the church's dome. It could hardly be called a dome; it was merely a supporting structure made of wood. Someone had painted it with imitation stone paint and hung a few decorative pieces on it, apparently trying to imitate the grandeur of Europe's pure stone churches, but unfortunately, it had not worked. Most of the paint had peeled away by now.
At that moment, they were inside the church in Big Valley Town, hoping to find some clues. From Aunt Kane's abnormal behavior, both Kate and Peter had realized that her family was most likely part of a cult. The church was bound to hold important clues.
"There's even Jesus here." Peter looked up at the cross hanging at the very front of the church. "Looks like this sect is based on Christianity."
"Let's sort through the clues we've gathered so far," Kate said. "Aunt Kane lived a very simple life and barely used any electronic devices. At the same time, there was no study in the house, so they probably did not read. There were no brewed drinks either, like tea or coffee. Also, we had to use my pregnancy as an excuse before she agreed to let us come back and visit. That proves she had an abnormal obsession with childbirth. And after you were injured, Aunt Kane had a huge reaction to the idea of you going to the hospital, which means she opposed modern medicine."
Peter turned and met Kate's eyes.
"You thought of it too, didn't you?"
"Then let's say it together."
"Mormonism."
