When Clark flew to Lois's balcony, he found her sitting on the sofa watching TV. Clark froze. He even looked around suspiciously, but found no one else.
"Lois." He called softly, as though afraid the figure before him was an illusion.
"Oh, God, you're here!" Lois tossed aside the remote and strode over to the window.
Clark stepped inside and hugged her, then said, "Are you all right? You..."
"Shh..." Lois made a gesture, then pointed outside, indicating that someone was listening.
Clark immediately covered his mouth, but soon lowered his voice and said, "How did you..."
"They took me away, but I convinced their leader to change solitary confinement into house arrest."
Clark felt anger rising again, but his emotional control had improved greatly by now. He took a deep breath, barely suppressing his rage, then said with some guilt, "Sorry, it was all because of me..."
"You think too highly of yourself." Lois smiled. "Even without you, they might have come looking for me."
"...Why?" Clark was confused. He had thought Lois had been implicated entirely because of him, that the military wanted to do what Lex Luthor had done and threaten him by kidnapping someone important to him.
Lois shook her head without speaking. She merely led him to the computer and pointed at the screen.
Clark walked over, sat down on the sofa, and looked at the article displayed on the screen. The moment he saw the headline, he was stunned.
"Was the Fall of Ancient Egyptian Civilization Actually Linked to Aliens? Is a Close Encounter of the Third Kind a Blessing or a Curse?"
Clark had developed a condition where seeing the words "Ancient Egyptian civilization" gave him a headache. He truly had no idea how Lois had gotten mixed up in ancient Egypt too.
