"Two thousand casualties???" Clark Kent couldn't hold it in and cried out. No, he'd lifted the building the instant he got there. How could there possibly have been two thousand casualties???
For a moment, Clark genuinely wondered if he'd arrived too late, and during the building's collapse, the fragile humans inside had been flung around like filling in a pancake.
But after thinking it over carefully, he was certain that when he lifted the building, its angle of tilt hadn't exceeded fifteen degrees. It was possible that the sudden tilt had caused some people to bump into walls and get hurt, but it had only lasted around two seconds. Surely no one could have died from that, right?
But saying there were two thousand casualties meant perhaps 1,999 had been injured and only one had died. Now that was some journalism-school logic.
Still, Clark didn't really believe that even two thousand people had been injured. He didn't just have the super strength to lift a building; he also had super hearing and super vision. When he flew over and lifted the building, the people inside hadn't been screaming all that badly. It had sounded more like startled cries than agonized shrieks.
After all, he'd been right beneath the building at the time. It had only taken him two seconds to fly over after hearing it collapse. Many people had probably just noticed the floor gradually tilting, shouted in surprise, and then been caught. By the time the building had been set level again, many of them probably still hadn't realized what had happened.
These reports were exaggerated beyond belief, Clark thought. They were making things up without even bothering with a draft.
He carried a glass of water to the sofa and sat down, shaking his head. Despite having worked
