This was a perfectly normal-looking photograph, and Clark had not noticed anything wrong at first. All he had gleaned from it was that Lex might have lost his mother at a young age. But after looking at it again, he suddenly realized that the way the two of them were holding hands was somewhat off.
The man was holding Little Lex's right hand, but not in the normal way. It was more as though he were trying to hide his right hand behind him, making their poses look rather strange.
Clark had initially assumed it was simply a candid shot, with Little Lex failing to stand properly. But the photos that followed were each strange in their own way. For instance, in one photo taken by the sea, Little Lex was actually wearing a turtleneck sweater. And in another photo taken in an office, the angle of Little Lex's ankle was very unnatural.
Clark continued flipping through them and soon found more clues. He did not know much about body language, but he could at least read eyes. Little Lex clearly did not want to take photographs with his father. He always seemed to be trying to shrink away to the side, never looking directly at his father, his whole demeanor stiff and numb.
After finishing the photographs, he went through the other documents. At last, Clark found a decisive piece of evidence: Alexander Luthor's record of receiving treatment at the Psychiatry Department of a hospital in Metropolis.
"Bingo," Clark said. He looked at the hospital's name and the date of the visit, then made an estimate based on Luthor's age. This should have been a diagnosis from his teenage years.
