The next morning, Hal and Carol had settled in. They finished breakfast by the window. Hal tidied up, then said, "Superman didn't show himself yesterday. I'll take another look around today and see if I can run into him. If that doesn't work, I'll have to look for him at his company."
"Go ahead." Carol waved her phone and said, "My father says you're a troublemaker, but he still recommended some reliable real estate agents. I'm going out to look at houses later. It'd be even better if I could find out which neighborhood Superman lives in."
Hal smiled at her and was just about to leave when the doorbell rang. Both of them tensed up. Hal hurried back to the kitchen and put an arm around Carol.
"Should I go back to the bedroom first?" Carol asked quietly.
"No. What if they come in through the back door? Stay here. I can protect you. If a fight breaks out, crawl under the table."
Carol nodded, then pulled a compact pistol from her bag and stood behind the sofa, ready to act at any moment. Hal touched his ring, a glint of green flashing in his eyes. If those people dared come looking for trouble again, he had to make them regret it.
He opened the door and was just about to attack when he realized the person outside was not an agent, but a tall woman. Her complexion was slightly dark, but her skin was smooth. Even her winter clothes could not hide her powerful muscles. More importantly, she was dressed entirely in designer brands, looking like the kind of formidable businesswoman who dominated the corporate world.
Hal immediately changed his expression and offered a polite smile. "Hello, ma'am. We only moved in yesterday. Which house do you live
