Hal's jaw nearly dropped as he stared at the seven Lantern batteries laid out before him. Trembling, he pointed at them and said, "Th-this, this, this..."

"Batman did it," Schiller said bluntly.

Hal had been about to say something, but then he remembered how Sinestro had attacked Apokolips without hesitation, abandoning Earth to its fate. He took a deep breath and said, "Impressive."

"But I heard he was going to drain his life force..."

"He's not stupid. Why would he drain his own life force when he has the seven Lantern powers?"

"Oh, right." Hal finally caught on. Then he said, "We'll have to make that clear to Clark later. He's worried sick."

But Schiller shook his head. "Don't tell him."

Hal looked at him in confusion. Schiller said, "Superman needs the power of conviction. He needs a more concrete and more important goal to bring out his greatest strength."

"Isn't that a little wrong?" Hal hesitated, clearly feeling guilty. "Will Clark really accept something this close to deception? Or do you think you can hide it from him forever?"

"You don't understand him, or his relationship with Batman." Schiller walked around the table and said, "When he finds out Batman deceived him and didn't drain his own life force, he'll only be happy."
