Clark looked bewildered. "Me? But aren't you the one..."

Hal deliberately raised his voice. "I'm infected! Did you forget? I was already infected by the Power of Death when I came back to life, and it's gotten pretty deep. Right now, you're the least corrupted. The White Lantern is most likely to choose you as its host!"

Clark suddenly understood and hurried toward the ring. Whoever became the White Lantern, as long as it was one of them, that was enough. But the white ring might be limited in number too. If someone on Black Death Emperor's side destroyed it, they would be completely out of options.

Clark accelerated to full speed and almost blinked to the ring's side, but Kalibak was no slower. He shook off the Kryptonians and threw a punch at Clark.

Clark refused to be outdone, dodging while reaching for the ring. Kalibak would not let him have it, and the two battled around the ring.

Hal wanted to rush over and seize the ring himself, but the two were making too much of a commotion, and he was afraid of getting caught in the crossfire. So he simply pretended he wanted to lure Kalibak away and moved closer to the ring as well.

But Kalibak did not fall for it. Or perhaps Hal's earlier words had worked. Kalibak looked crude, but he was not stupid. With only a little deduction, he knew Superman had the greatest chance of becoming the White Lantern among everyone present. As long as he stopped him, the others were no threat.

The two fought back and forth around the ring, leaving Hal with no room to intervene. He could only fire a few ranged attacks from the side.

Fortunately, in his urgency, Clark displayed strength far beyond his usual level.
