A surgery lasted over seven hours. When the patient was wheeled out of the operating room, Doctor Strange came out with her, taking off his mask as he said, "The surgery was successful. The patient's vital signs haven't fully stabilized yet, so she'll need to be monitored for more than twelve hours..."
He stopped there. The mutants outside were all looking at him. Doctor Strange had no choice but to finish giving the medical instructions. Magneto looked at him and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Doctor Strange sounded a little emotional. "I just had this dazed feeling, like I'd gone back to the past."
The two of them walked to the corner of the corridor outside the operating room. Magneto nodded and said, "I often feel that way too. As if today is nothing but a repetition of days gone by."
"Mutants really have been repeating the past all along." Doctor Strange had not lost his sharp tongue. "It's only normal that you'd feel that way."
However, this universe's Magneto truly did have a good temper. He did not get angry, nor did he argue back. He only said, "Sometimes being able to repeat the past is a kind of good fortune too. For you especially, isn't that true?"
Doctor Strange was silent for a while, then said, "Maybe you're right. I was just thinking..."
"What?"
"Nothing." He crumpled the mask in his hand into a ball, waved his hand, changed back into Doctor Strange's outfit, and walked toward the door.
When he returned to the Avengers base, everyone looked at him, but Doctor Strange said nothing and went back to his room. Main Universe Iron Man stood at the doorway of his own room, watching him.
"See? What did I tell you? The surgery failed, and he must be heartbroken."
