If the numbers in his field of vision hadn't suddenly started jumping for no reason, Superman would almost have thought he was genuinely afraid. His heartbeat sped up, his head spun, and even his steps grew heavy—and all of it was because one stat in his vision was rising.
"Unspeakable Fear: When you know who he is, when you know where he is, you will inevitably feel fear. The only thing that can stop him is death."
Superman took a deep breath and tried to force down that panicked feeling through sheer willpower. But there was no question that he failed. Aside from the fact that this was a compulsory negative status, he also had to admit that realizing they were in Gotham going up against Batman really did bring no small amount of pressure.
But Superman didn't just sit there and wait to die. He quickly took the chips he had found by rummaging through drawers and felt his way out of the room, only to discover that he could no longer remember where the shop he had seen earlier was.
There was no way he was that forgetful. Superman immediately realized that even without Super Brain, it was impossible for him to be thinking one second that he would search for chips and then go find the shop, only to forget the location of the shop he had already seen the next second. Had someone forcibly deleted his memory?
"Damn it," Superman cursed under his breath. The negative effects brought on by the fear status were clearly not just an elevated heart rate or heavy steps. This could affect his mind, causing his thoughts to become disordered and his memories to fall into confusion.
