"Crazy! Crazy! Why is everyone in this city insane?!"
Carol clutched his injured shoulder as he and the Green Lanterns darted between Gotham's skyscrapers, using Green Lantern energy to fly low.
The reason they did not fly higher was because Batplanes loaded with missiles were patrolling the skies.
Towering buildings stood in dense rows, and green specks of light flitted past like fireflies. Giant screens on the walls of the buildings shimmered with color. As the green lights streaked by, a smiling face in Joker makeup appeared on one screen and said to the camera:
"This is Joker Jack's late-night weather forecast. Today will be sunny, there may be heavy snow tonight, and magical creatures known as Green Lanterns will appear in the sky..."
"All right, that concludes today's weather forecast, because Jack the host is getting off work... What? You ask what I'll do after work? Naturally, I'll take this opportunity to drive!"
"After all, tonight will be the night with the most Green Lanterns in Gotham, hahahahahahaha!!"
Boom!
After flying past the screen, Hal twisted aside and dodged a Rocket Launcher round. When he looked back, the enormous screen had already been blown apart in a shower of sparks.
He sped up and flew alongside Carol, who was leading the group. "This can't go on. Sooner or later, we'll get shot down!"
"What is wrong with this city? Why are there so many lunatics?!" Carol could not make sense of it. He looked down to see gangsters chasing them across the ground. Every one of them had an armed truck filled with all kinds of weapons, and they were firing at the Lanterns as they gave chase.
The rings could indeed help Lanterns withstand bullets and explosions, but that consumed energy. Flying and dodging consumed energy as well.
