Just as a weather forecaster who had appeared on the big screen said earlier, tonight was the night Gotham had the most green lights.

But these green lights had no intention of staying obediently on traffic signal poles. Instead, they darted around the city like headless flies.

They did not know what kind of abyss this city truly was. They did not know what darkness lurked in its narrow alleys, pitch-black stairwells, and buildings where light and shadow swayed.

At first, the activities of these strangely dressed people did not draw much attention, because Gotham had far too many weirdos. But a rumor spread among the truck drivers, whose routes covered the widest area: Gotham was haunted.

These glowing green figures were ancestral spirits resurrected from beneath the earth. They had come to punish the city and destroy all the chaos and evil within it.

When Gotham City's citizens heard this news, their first reaction was not to pray or flee frantically toward churches. They picked up their guns, loaded their magazines, pushed open their doors, took to the streets, and unleashed a barrage on every green object in sight.

"We've come to save this city!" a Green Lantern shouted. "We've come for justice! Green light will cleanse all filth!"

The bullet struck the faint green glow. It did not penetrate the Green Lantern's shield, but it sent him flying. A freckle-faced boy loaded another round into his rifle and said:

"Save this city? Sorry, this city doesn't need anyone to save it."
