How efficient was energy acquisition? It could be compared to oil.
Global daily oil production was measured in tens of thousands of barrels. Saudi Arabia alone produced around ten million barrels a day. As of March 2022, global daily oil production stood at roughly one hundred million barrels. Though it was now 1989 and output had not yet reached such heights, it was certainly still substantial.
As mentioned before, Dark Owls were about the same size as real owls. A hundred thousand owls sounded like a lot, but if they were all squeezed together, they might not even amount to one minute of global daily oil production. How could that kind of efficiency possibly be acceptable?
So Schiller began organizing everyone to further improve production efficiency. The main approaches were still the same: compressing time costs on one hand, and fully automating the entire process on the other.
As for compressing time costs, these children truly found it difficult to maintain concentration for long periods. And if they were unwilling to sing, merely mumbling the syllables, there was no way they could summon owls.
Nor was it possible to ensure that all the children showed up on time. One would have family matters, another would fall ill, and the whole point of doing this was to protect the children. They could not put the cart before the horse and exploit them instead. Therefore, time costs could not be compressed.
That was the drawback of using human workers. Everything thus fell back on mechanization. If machines could replace humans, then as long as there was enough energy, they could work continuously without absences or bad conditions.
In this regard, Constantine was nearly driven mad by Schiller. He said, "You want robots to use magic??? Listen to yourself! Does that make any
