Of course, while this opening sounded like the classic line from the last time Owls Have Bad Luck in Gotham, one Joker would never plagiarize another.

Joker Schiller became Joker-Cat and switched up the game. He came up with actual riddles, though naturally, every answer was "meow meow meow." In a city of cats, what other answer could there be?

It sounded absurd and strange, but these owl monsters disguised as cats were not human. They possessed a certain degree of intelligence, but no humanity. They were not toys any Joker would enjoy. Joker-Cat Schiller was merely here to make an appearance.

After the owls were wiped out, the Dark Owl Priests, still puzzled over where all the energy they had accumulated had gone, immediately noticed. Having just discovered that one of their bases was gone, the Dark Owl Priests naturally wanted to protect their other base, so they returned to their Metropolis hideout.

After returning, they found nothing unusual. The owl statue was still there, as were the cats, and there were no signs that anyone had entered. Clearly, Constantine and Hal had done an excellent cleanup job. Hal in particular could use Green Lantern energy to create objects; he had even sealed the breach Clark had blown open and the hole beside the room.

The Dark Owl Priests found nothing amiss, except one priest noticed that a cat cage on the floor had been opened and one cat was missing. But they did not catch cats personally, so there was no way he could remember every single one. He merely assumed the cage had not been shut properly and the cat had escaped on its own, so he paid it no attention.
