After Bruce and Lex arrived in Metropolis, they still had to rely on the Luthor family's connections to clear the way. However, Lionel had not left behind nothing but the family business.
Money and power went hand in hand. The Metropolis Police Department commissioner had a fairly good relationship with the Luthor family. Upon hearing that Lex was interested in the murder case, he handed all the case files over to Lex.
However, the officers had not uncovered any particularly significant clues either. So Lex asked the police commissioner if he could inspect the scene himself, but the Metropolis Police Department commissioner seemed quite troubled. He said over the phone:
