"Explain yourself!" Peter grabbed Superior Spider-Man's arm and shouted, "What do you mean he's certain to die? How can you curse a good Doctor?"
"I'm merely stating a fact." Superior Spider-Man's tone was steady and devoid of emotion, as though he were discussing something that had nothing to do with him. He said, "Until you learn this lesson, you'll never understand how great a price you'll pay for it."
"No... Doctor Schiller, he can't possibly... How could he..." Peter took two steps back, shaking his head in denial. As Superior Spider-Man sat at the table fiddling with mechanical parts, he said, "Yes. Before Gwen and Ben Parker died, you thought the same thing."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Peter said incredulously. "You really ought to see a doctor. How could Gwen and Uncle Ben die? They're just ordinary people."
"It is precisely because they're ordinary people that they will die—and because of your foolish actions." Superior Spider-Man's hands paused for a moment, but he still did not turn to look at Peter. He simply continued, "You possess Superhuman Strength. No thug or criminal can hurt you, but ordinary people..."
"I... I'll protect them." Peter stood there and said with complete seriousness. He swung an arm as he added, "You must be mentally ill from too much stress. You should see a psychologist instead of making up nonsense here!"
"Whether I'm making it up or not, ask the other Spider-Men and you'll know."
"I'll go ask them right now. Don't think you can fool me!" Peter stormed out and slammed the door.
But when he reached the hall, he discovered that the other Spider-Men were all busy with their own work. Moreover, the faces of most of the Spider-Men there practically spelled out four words: Keep strangers away.
