"We only produced three Mother Mold Cores, so there absolutely cannot be any mistakes during launch..."
General Ross looked at the old General standing on the stage. In a firm, resonant tone, the old General said, "Over the past five years, we have invested immeasurable manpower and resources, and finally created the Mother Mold Core, along with a launch system capable of sending it near the sun..."
As he spoke, Ross noticed that the two generals in the front row looked rather grim.
In truth, Ross knew what this was about.
Project Red Door claimed to be about extermination, but in reality, it was nothing more than using a superweapon as a Chip to negotiate with the Mutants.
At the time, Professor X and Magneto held an overwhelming advantage in military strength. The military coveted that power, yet could gain no benefits from them at all. To reverse the situation, they planned to create a Chip of their own.
But five years ago, humanity still had difficulty launching probes to Mars. Developing a launch system capable of directly reaching the vicinity of the sun would have been sheer fantasy.
Project Red Door had been proposed against that technological backdrop. At the time, the upper limit of the military's imagination for a weapon's radiation range was the Solar System.
They had believed that as long as they could place a superweapon near the sun, they would be able to solve the Mutant problem once and for all.
During the first three of those five years, they poured in untold wealth and pooled the military budgets of all three branches before barely managing to build that absurdly expensive piece of equipment.
As for why it was so expensive, that began with the so-called Mother Mold Core.
