The instant Schiller's umbrella handle touched Pamela's forehead, the rain outside the window abruptly froze in place. When lightning lit up Schiller's face, the anger in his eyes was plain to see.
The curved surfaces of the raindrops blurred the refracted light. As ripples surged, countless tiny droplets like them rose from the ground back into the sky. The vines and plants receded, and Catwoman had just picked the lock on the pickup truck's door and settled into the driver's seat.
The passenger-side door opened, and Schiller stepped out of the car. He strode into Gotham University. At this point, there were still no stringent security measures here. The students and teachers in this patch of Gotham's pure land seemed completely unaware of the horrors unfolding outside.
His leather shoes clicked crisply against the stairs. When he pushed open the aging office door, it let out a creak.
Anna and Victor turned to look at the somewhat travel-worn Schiller. Before either of them could speak, Schiller frowned and asked, "Didn't you go out today?... I mean, leave Gotham University."
"It's already chaos outside. We should be getting ready too."
"What happened now?" Anna stood, smoothed her hair, and frowned at Schiller. "For you to look like that, don't tell me a tsunami is about to hit?"
"Come on, a tsunami wouldn't make him look like that." Victor curled his lip. "If a tsunami really came, he'd definitely call me from the low-temperature lab and ask for a freeze bomb powerful enough to freeze the Pacific Ocean."
Anna seemed to hear something. She walked to the window and pulled back the curtains, only to see chaos erupting beyond the campus walls. She turned back with a grave expression, about to say something, when the door burst open with a bang.
