Heavenly Lord Yuanshi had indeed repeatedly instilled in his disciples that the Jie Sect under Sect Master Tongtian was a heterodox sect, the sworn enemy of the Chan Teachings, and undeserving of the slightest respect.
Yet everyone knew perfectly well that Sect Master Tongtian was the one who truly treated all members of the Jie Sect equally, teaching without discrimination.
He never favored one disciple over another because of their background. All disciples under the Jie Sect were treated equally, trusted one another deeply, and worked together as one. As for Sect Master Tongtian, he protected his own disciples fiercely and without compromise. If anyone so much as touched one of them, he would repay it tenfold!
These were no longer empty words. Every incident stood as proof, able to withstand scrutiny without the need for repeated arguments.
Heavenly Lord Yuanshi appeared upright and composed, but in truth, he placed his own interests above all else. The number of personal disciples he had personally abandoned was beyond counting. Those grand decisions supposedly made "for the greater good" were, upon closer inspection, nothing more than selfishness at work.
In terms of character and bearing, Heavenly Lord Yuanshi and Sect Master Tongtian were not even on the same level. Yuanshi was not qualified to be mentioned in the same breath as him.

Guangchengzi's tone was cold and harsh, without the slightest attempt at concealment. "If the Chan Teachings had not supported you with all our strength, how could you have risen to your current position? Let alone secured your seat as lord of Western Qi. You know this fact perfectly well!"
