"Really? This grass has that kind of effect?"
It was Wei Zonghao's first time hearing of this. He had yet to learn anything about spirit plants.
"Of course it's true. My uncle told me that using Weiwei grass to refine Breath Concealment Pills actually works even better. Unfortunately, I don't know how to refine pills yet, so I can only use the raw materials to disguise myself."
Wei Zonghao became interested as well and walked over. "Then tell me how to identify Weiwei grass. I'll pick some too."
"Sure, come look. This Weiwei grass is shorter and thinner than ordinary grass, and its color is paler too. It usually grows in places with abundant water and loves to burrow into cracks between rocks. Look carefully, and you'll find some."
Wei Yunxi explained very carefully. Before long, Wei Zonghao found a stalk and pulled it up for Wei Yunxi to confirm.
"That's right, this is Weiwei grass. Let's pick more. That way, we'll be a little less endangered tonight, and you can save some of your Breath Concealment talismans."
Wei Zonghao nodded. His family had not prepared many talismans for him, so he had to use them sparingly.
The two moved quickly. By the time a Water Lizard poked its head out, they had already left the stream and continued on their way.
Not long afterward, Wei Yunting's team also arrived at the stream. Wei Yunqing was attacked by a Water Lizard while fetching water.
Fortunately, her reaction was not slow. She threw away the water gourd and scrambled back to Wei Yunting's side.
Wei Zonghan formed a hand seal and barely managed to launch a fireball, forcing the Water Lizard back into the stream. Then he shouted, "Move!"
The six-person team had no choice but to keep moving forward. At this point, the others in the group consciously or unconsciously put more distance between themselves and Wei Yunqing. She seemed to be a walking magnet for disaster—she could get attacked just fetching water.
Wei Yunqing felt wronged too. How was she supposed to know there was a spirit beast in the stream? And that it would attack her precisely while she was drawing water? She did not want to cause trouble either.
The atmosphere in that team was somewhat stiff, while Wei Yunxi and Wei Zonghao were much more relaxed. They crushed the Weiwei grass and rubbed it over themselves, giving off the scent of fresh grass. Once they had disguised themselves, they continued onward.
"Yunxi, this Weiwei grass really works."
"Brother Zonghao, don't let your guard down just because the Weiwei grass is working. Its effects are nowhere near as good as Breath Concealment talismans or Breath Concealment Pills.
"To those spirit beasts, we're like walking grass. If they get curious, they could easily chase after us."
"I know, I know."
The little chubby boy nodded at once.
At noon, the two did not go to the stream to rest again. During the hottest part of the day, spirit beasts would play in the water, and they did not want to be chased by them.
During that hottest half hour, the two climbed up a tree to rest, just as they had the night before. After a brief nap to restore their energy, they continued on their way.
Hidden in the shadows, True Lord Yufeng felt that these two little ones from the Wei Family were quite methodical. Though they had been forced to fall behind, they still continued onward, remaining highly vigilant and knowing how to use whatever was at hand to disguise themselves. That little girl in particular was clearly very familiar with spirit plants.
After descending another slope, the two prepared to rest where they were for a quarter of an hour. Just then, Wei Yunxi heard a burst of neighing.
Wei Zonghao heard it too. He quickly moved to Wei Yunxi's side and asked, "Yunxi, that's the sound of a spirit beast."
"Mm, I heard it. I don't know how many there are or whether they're coming for us."
"Let's climb that tree first and take a look."
The little chubby boy pointed at a tall pine tree.
Wei Yunxi nodded in agreement. The two then climbed the tree like little monkeys and looked toward the source of the sound.
"Huh! That's a Red-maned Horse. It looks like a foal. Why is it here?"
Wei Zonghao said, his eyes sparkling.
Wei Yunxi shook her head. "I'm not sure. It seems to be tangled in Iron Thorns."
The Red-maned Horse could not break free from the Iron Thorns, which was why it was neighing. It was probably calling to its companions for help.
"Yunxi, should we take this Red-maned Horse?"
Wei Zonghao asked eagerly.
Wei Yunxi forced out a smile. "Brother Zonghao, did you bring a Spirit Beast Bag?"
Wei Zonghao immediately shook his head. "No. That thing costs even more than a Storage Pouch."
Wei Yunxi continued, "Since this place is so close to the Haoran Sect, could it be a spirit beast the sect raises for transportation?"
"That's possible, but they can't let such a small Red-maned Horse carry people!"
Wei Yunxi rubbed her chubby chin. "It is small, but it should be able to carry the two of us."
"You want to ride the Red-maned Horse there?"
Wei Zonghao felt that Sister Yunxi really had quite the imagination.
Wei Yunxi nodded and asked with a smile, "Brother Zonghao, don't you want to be the first to reach the gathering point?"
"Of course I do."
"With our little short legs, it'll take at least three days to walk there. If we can ride the Red-maned Horse, we can save at least half a day. Do you want to give it a try?"
Wei Zonghao helplessly rubbed his face. "That depends on whether the Red-maned Horse is willing."
"Don't worry. We'll rescue it first, then discuss it properly. It should agree to give us a ride."
Wei Yunxi was quite confident.
Then the two put their heads together and discussed things for quite a while. They also needed to make sure there were no companions of the Little Red-maned Horse nearby. An adult Red-maned Horse was not something the two of them could handle.
"Sister Yunxi, there probably aren't any of its companions nearby."
"Mm. If there were, it wouldn't have wandered into the Iron Thorns on its own."
Once they confirmed their plan could be carried out, the two slid down from the tree and slowly approached the trapped Little Red-maned Horse.
The Little Red-maned Horse also noticed Wei Yunxi and Wei Zonghao. It snorted, its large black eyes filled with confusion. The creatures in front of it had two legs, but they were rather small, and their scent was wrong.
In response to the Little Red-maned Horse's confusion, Wei Yunxi waved at Wei Zonghao. Wei Zonghao immediately took out a sugar cube from his Storage Pouch. His mother had specially packed it for him.
"Brother Zonghao, hurry up!"
Wei Yunxi helplessly reminded him as she watched him swallow his saliva.
She was grateful that she had never liked sweets since childhood. Even this child's body did not crave sugar.
In the end, Wei Zonghan still tossed the sugar cube beside the Little Red-maned Horse's mouth and said kindly, "Little horse, this is for you. Eat it, and you'll have strength."
The Little Red-maned Horse was quite intelligent. It tilted its head and sniffed the sugar cube on the ground. After hesitating for a while, it stretched out its tongue and rolled the sugar cube into its mouth. It chewed twice before swallowing, then licked its lips, seemingly quite fond of the taste.
Seeing that the Little Red-maned Horse had been soothed, Wei Yunxi took the dagger Wei Zonghao handed her and slowly began cutting through the Iron Thorns wrapped around one of its hind legs.
Wei Zonghao turned into a little chatterbox, "communicating" with the Little Red-maned Horse. From time to time, he used sugar cubes to soothe its emotions and replenish the little horse's strength.
Wei Yunxi did not cut through the Iron Thorns quickly. She kept watching the Little Red-maned Horse's reactions. If it showed impatience or resistance, she would pause for a while before continuing, giving it time to accept what was happening.
Half an hour later, the Little Red-maned Horse finally escaped its predicament with their help.
Wei Zonghao rubbed his little hands together and said in a negotiating tone, "Beautiful little horse, would you be willing to take us to the Haoran Sect?"
