Background / History

The King is born after the Chimera Ants seize control of East Gorteau’s government and military. His birth ends the Queen’s rule, frees the division leaders to form their own factions, and places the Three Royal Guards directly beneath him. He begins mating to create new Queens while the colony builds a modern army, firearms, artillery, and biochemical weapons. 178 179

From the outset, he regards power as the basis for authority and seeks out strong human opponents. Allen later observes him in the royal palace playing a board game with Komugi, while the King’s aura is measured at more than five million. 178 181

Netero engages him in a decisive battle. Though initially forced onto the defensive by Hyakushiki Kannon, the King gradually adapts to its speed and begins awakening the potential embedded in his body. Netero’s Zero Hand leaves him heavily wounded but alive. 187 191

Afterward, the King confronts Allen and argues that violence and fear are sufficient to make humanity submit. Allen rejects his belief that a predator can rule humans through strength alone. Allen’s Mithril Arrow destroys the King’s right arm, then defeats him through sustained ranged attacks, Red Dragon fusion, and Pouf’s scale powder. 192 194 195

Accepting his death, the King reveals his name, Meruem. Vilnalasath devours his cocoon, transferring his power to Allen. 196

Meruem is a humanoid Chimera Ant. When Allen first observes him in the royal palace, he is seated on a mat opposite Komugi and wears a green safety helmet. 181
