Returning home, Rorschach acted as if he had just finished a simple job.
In a sense, it really was simple.
He had merely "sawed" open a person.
Unfortunately, Eugene's unexpected encounter and coma.
Had once again stalled Rorschach's resource replenishment plan.
Rorschach decided to try the number of the private gun dealer he had obtained earlier.
To see if he could establish basic contact with the other party.
However, before Rorschach could act.
The next morning.
Just as Rorschach was about to head to the restaurant with his aunt to sort out the chores.
He unexpectedly received a strange phone call.
Frowning, Rorschach answered it.
Only then did he learn that Eugene, who had been in a deep coma, had actually woken up.
And had contacted him through a nurse's phone.
Rorschach hesitated for a moment.
Then decided to grab a stack of cash and head to the hospital to visit Eugene.
After all, the other party was also a friend who had helped him gather information.
Brooklyn Hospital.
Rorschach arrived at the Emergency Front Desk.
After a brief inquiry.
An on-duty Black Nurse told him the location of Eugene's room.
And said the other party was waiting for a visit.
But the patient needed rest, so he shouldn't stay too long.
Rorschach thanked her and was about to turn around.
When he inadvertently overheard a gossip tidbit whispered by another White Nurse.
Last night, a man who had been brought in for treatment woke from his coma.
Had a mental breakdown and sobbed loudly for hours.
The whole person was like a child who had suffered immense grievance and shock.
Rorschach couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
It seemed the torment Eugene had endured over the past few days was truly brutal.
However, when Rorschach found Eugene's room.
He pushed the door open and entered, only to see a Eugene completely different from what he had imagined.
Eugene sat on the hospital bed wearing a neck brace, his spine straight.
His eyes stared straight ahead, and though his overall mental state was sluggish.
The occasional glint in his eyes was different from before—brighter.
"Hey, Rorschach."
The dazed Eugene immediately spotted Rorschach entering.
He suddenly broke into a bright smile and waved excitedly in greeting.
"Uh... do you need me to call a doctor?"
Squinting, Rorschach stared at Eugene, whose temperament and behavior had undergone a massive change, and couldn't help saying:
"Eugene, I feel like something's off with you..."
"It's okay, Rorschach, it's not your problem. I really have changed inside and out, but I think it's a good thing."
Eugene's face maintained that bright smile.
He blinked a few times and spoke with clear logic:
"Although I don't quite remember what I went through these past days, I know you might have saved me."
"I still recall the favor you asked me for before... So, to repay your life-saving grace, I've already found a suitable person through my connections among friends... Aaron Davis from Queens. He can provide you with more help."
As his words trailed off, the smiling Eugene pulled a sticky note from under his pillow and handed it to Rorschach.
"This is his contact info. I've already given him a heads-up for you. You'll have to discuss the specific quantities and prices yourselves."
Rorschach studied Eugene for a few moments.
Then took the sticky note and put it in his pocket.
Then, he pulled out a stack of cash.
He intended to place it in front of Eugene.
However, Rorschach's action drew Eugene's refusal.
Eugene tried to lift his chin, a faint glow seeming to appear on his still pale and swollen face.
He spoke to Rorschach with sincere expression:
"I helped you get in touch because you saved my life... I used to be a school bully who threw my weight around, not truly evil, but not a good person either... Rorschach, I want to become a genuinely good person from now on, every cent I earn has to come cleanly, so please, grant me this wish."
Hearing Eugene's words, Rorschach's brow furrowed tightly.
After a moment, he shook his head and put the money away.
At the same time, he said with a faint smile:
"Eugene, I hope you succeed, in becoming a good person..."
With that, Rorschach turned and left.
Just as he was about to step out of the hospital room door.
He suddenly turned his head and said:
"Oh, and Eugene, don't work in Manhattan for at least a year. Brooklyn and Queens are fine too. Believe me if you want, don't if you don't... See you."
After saying goodbye, Rorschach left the room.
Leaving only a bewildered Eugene sitting on the hospital bed, staring blankly.
Then, Rorschach, having left the room.
His first task was to pay Eugene's hospital bill in advance.
And he left his phone number.
When Rorschach stepped out of the hospital, he couldn't help but sigh.
Eugene was probably suffering from extreme fear and pain.
His personality had developed some serious issues.
Even though Rorschach wasn't a psychologist.
He could still sense some clues.
But whether this was good or bad for the former Eugene.
Was impossible to judge.
Squinting his eyes, Rorschach sat down on his scooter.
He pulled out a note, glanced at it, and dialed the number without hesitation.
After a short waiting tone, the call connected.
A male voice with a clear black accent reached Rorschach's ears.
"Who's this?"
"Aaron Davis? I'm a friend of Eugene's. Did he tell you about me?"
Rorschach had a brief conversation with the other party.
And they agreed to meet for the first transaction in three days.
If things went smoothly, they would maintain a long-term partnership.
Faced with the wholesale price of two hundred and fifty for a brand-new gun.
Rorschach still chose the old guns the other party mentioned, at a hundred bucks each.
The old guns were all 'murder weapons' with records.
After all, the Simulator wouldn't reject any firearm that could fire.
Whether long guns or short guns, recycling took an hour.
So Rorschach naturally wanted the cheapest source possible.
Finally having the resource issue settled.
Rorschach was visibly much more excited.
He took one last glance at the hospital and started the motorcycle.
After nightfall, having tidied everything up, Rorschach lay peacefully in bed.
Eagerly, he opened the Simulator he had been waiting for days.
