One DRAGON after another was swept into countless pieces by the Apostle's beam whips. Chunks of flesh, trailing blood, fell from the sky one after another, as though it were raining blood. Above them, dark clouds churned and thunder roared, making it seem as if the heavens themselves were weeping.
Kira, Athrun, Ryoma Nagare, Amuro, and everyone else were deeply shaken by the sight. These DRAGONs were clearly no match for the Apostle. The smaller DRAGONs, in particular, were torn apart completely in a single exchange. Yet none of them hesitated or retreated. Fearlessly, they charged and attacked the Apostle.
If they had not known that these DRAGONs were transformed humans, they might have thought this was merely a slaughter between monsters, something with nothing to do with them. But now that they knew the true nature of the DRAGONs—that they were human, and had come specifically to face the Apostle—it seemed even more as though they were fighting to prevent this world from being destroyed.
To those present, especially Gido, Bright, and the others from this world, everything they saw now was like human heroes using their flesh and blood to resist the threat that would destroy their world. The Apostle was not attacking and dismembering DRAGONs—it was attacking humans, unarmed humans who still persisted in fighting. And the small DRAGONs, especially, were all women brave enough to sacrifice themselves.
"Aaaaaah!" Shin suddenly cried out in anguish, his shout jolting everyone awake from the tragic spectacle. "I can't watch this anymore! I can't watch this anymore! These DRAGONs are humans! They're protecting Earth right now! Even if they attacked me earlier, I can't just stand here and watch them keep throwing their lives away! I'm going to fight! I'm going to defeat that monster called the Apostle!"
