Tara Mask, Darkness Descends!
Coconut Grove City, Ghost Shadow Village.
"Xu Xin, this year, you're the only one awakening your spirit. If you don't awaken a Shadow Spirit, then get out of Ghost Shadow Village!!"
The stern, dignified old man tapped his cane against the ground and glared harshly at the little fellow before him.
A raggedly dressed boy of around six picked at his ear and lazily looked at the old man.
This was the village chief of Ghost Shadow Village, the number one loyal fan of Ghost Douluo, a Title Douluo.
Ghost Douluo had helped him years ago. For that reason, the old man had deliberately founded this village to prove that Ghost Shadow Spirits were incredibly awesome, hoping that one day he would earn Ghost Douluo's praise.
This village only accepted people with Shadow Spirits. Anyone without one was refused. There were only a scattered few people in the village, all of them possessing Shadow Spirits and having merely one or two levels of Innate Soul Power.
Seeing Xu Xin's lazy demeanor, the old man grew furious. He raised his cane and swung it at the boy.
"I know, I know, Village Chief. You've been saying it for a year. I already know."
Xu Xin replied perfunctorily.
A year ago, Xu Xin had still been wandering the streets when the old village chief brought him back to Ghost Shadow Village. The old man believed Xu Xin could awaken a Shadow Spirit, so he had taken him in.
Several others had come with him, but they were all a year older than Xu Xin. They had awakened their spirits and left last year.
Obviously, none of them had awakened Shadow Spirits.
This year, it was Xu Xin's turn.
There was one and only one candidate: Xu Xin.
The old village chief snorted and led Xu Xin into the awakening formation. "Put your hand on it."
Xu Xin obediently reached out and placed his hand on it.
The next moment.
A brilliant flash of light burst forth, and a warm aura boiled within Xu Xin's body. He felt as though something was about to emerge.
Heat radiated from his right hand. Unable to resist, Xu Xin opened his palm.
A mask appeared in Xu Xin's right hand!
The mask was entirely red, with snow-white brows and a snow-white beard, pale yellow eyes, and two black lines extending from the corners of its mouth.
The entire mask exuded an intense aura of darkness.
Before Xu Xin could examine his mask, a stern shout came from behind him. "Hmph, it's not a Shadow Spirit after all. Just a mask."
"Leave Ghost Shadow Village."
"This place doesn't suit you."
As the old village chief spoke, he began packing up, putting away all the awakening equipment.
"Village Chief, I haven't tested my Soul Power yet!"
Xu Xin had already recognized the mask: the Tara Mask.
The leader of the masks from the mask arc of Jackie Chan Adventures, capable of summoning all of the Shadow Legion.
Excited. Extremely excited.
Xu Xin's face was filled with a bright smile.
"Hmph, since it isn't a Shadow Spirit, you should leave sooner rather than later. We in Ghost Shadow Village do not welcome those without Shadow Spirits."
The old village chief did not care about any of that. After packing his things, he left.
Xu Xin sighed. Forget it. The other party had already done all he could for him. What more could he ask for?
Xu Xin had not originally belonged to this world. Six years ago, he had inexplicably transmigrated here and been adopted by an elderly woman. But three years later, she died. After simply burying her, little Xu Xin began wandering.
A year ago, the old village chief had brought him back, finally giving him a place to stay.
And today, he had been driven out again.
How miserable!
But after today, his life would change. He had awakened a heaven-defying spirit: the Tara Mask.
A mask capable of summoning the Ghost Shadow Legion.
Over the past few years, Xu Xin had also learned that this was the Douluo Continent, though he did not know what era he was in.
Watching the old village chief leave without a shred of hesitation, Xu Xin helplessly sighed.
After pulling himself together, Xu Xin withdrew his spirit and left Ghost Shadow Village.
After leaving the village, Xu Xin found a secluded spot and summoned his spirit.
"I hope you can bring me a surprise!"
Looking at the eerie mask, Xu Xin put it on without the slightest hesitation.
Rumble!
In an instant, lightning flashed and thunder roared across the sky. Wild thunder howled as the entire heavens darkened, as though some great terror had descended upon the Douluo Continent.
Darkness shrouded the entire sky. The next instant, a bolt of lightning tore through the darkness, restoring light to the world.
Xu Xin looked up. Everything was normal. The darkness had receded, the world was bright and clear, and sunlight shone brilliantly.
Xu Xin felt no discomfort at all. Instead, he felt extremely comfortable.
"Ghost Shadow Legion!"
"Come forth!"
He continuously pictured the Ghost Shadow Legion in his mind...
Hmm... quite a while passed.
An awkward silence hung in the air. There was nothing around him. Other than his own shadow, he did not see even a single ghost.
"Could it be that I can only summon them after absorbing my first Soul Ring?"
A guess formed in Xu Xin's mind.
Since nothing had happened, Xu Xin took off the mask.
Looking at the mask in his hand, Xu Xin was filled with emotion.
Douluo Continent.
Since he was already here, how could he face himself if he did not accomplish something?
Four things to do after transmigrating: trample Clear Sky, slay Tang San, execute Yu Xiaogang, and destroy the Heavenly Dao!
Let darkness descend upon Douluo and become the ruler of darkness!
Having made up his mind, Xu Xin immediately hurried toward the Spirit Hall branch.
He did not know what era this was, but Ghost Douluo was still alive. That meant Spirit Hall still existed, and everything was favorable for commoners.
That was quite good.
Xu Xin only had the body of a six-year-old. He had gone hungry and cold over the past few years, and staying alive had been a problem. He had not even been able to train his body. By the time he reached the Spirit Hall branch, he was panting heavily.
"Little friend, what are you doing at the Spirit Hall branch?" The guard asked politely as he looked at the nearly exhausted Xu Xin.
"Hello, Uncle. I came to test my Soul Power."
Xu Xin grinned and answered happily.
"I'll take you there, little friend."
Xu Xin did not refuse the guard's offer, and the two quickly entered the hall.
The Spirit Hall branch was not small. It was magnificent and resplendent, far more imposing.
The two soon arrived at the place for testing Soul Power.
"Little friend, go in. Someone inside will test your Soul Power for you."
After bringing Xu Xin here, the guard left. Xu Xin pushed open the door and walked in.
Inside sat a little old man, leisurely fanning himself with a palm-leaf fan.
"Hello, Grandpa. I came to test my Soul Power."
After struggling through life for so many years, Xu Xin understood that one did not strike a smiling face.
The little old man glanced at Xu Xin without standing up. He pointed with the hand holding the fan toward a crystal ball nearby. "Put your hand on it."
Xu Xin quickly strode over.
The instant he placed his hand on it, the crystal ball began to glow. It stopped shortly afterward.
"Level ten."
The little old man glanced at it and spoke lazily.
"How long have you been cultivating?"
"I've already been cultivating for a year..."
Xu Xin did not tell the truth. He did not want to join Spirit Hall, so it was better to conceal a little.
"A year? Then your Innate Soul Power is around level seven. Not bad. Are you interested in joining Spirit Hall?"
The little old man still did not look at Xu Xin, speaking while lying there.
"Senior, let me think about it." Xu Xin scratched his head.
"Fine. You may leave. Spirit Hall's doors will always be open to you."
From beginning to end, the little old man never gave Xu Xin a proper look.
After getting a certificate, Xu Xin left.
