Background / History

Xu Xin transmigrated to the Douluo Continent and grew up in Ghost Shadow Village in the body of a six-year-old boy. He struggled with poverty during his early years, but awakened the Tara Mask rather than the village’s desired Shadow Martial Soul. The village chief expelled him, prompting Xu Xin to leave and seek a path of his own 1.

At the Martial Soul Hall branch, Xu Xin concealed the true nature of his Martial Soul and declined an invitation to join the organization after testing at innate Level 10 Soul Power 1. He later met Ah Yin, whose trust he secured by presenting himself as an innocent child. She accompanied him to Sunset Forest to obtain his first Soul Ring 2.

Following the awakening of the Nijia Mask, Xu Xin began building a force around the Shadow Legion. He established the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as Shadow Hall’s base, recruited allies including Dugu Bo and Liu Erlong, and distributed Ghost Shadow masks to trusted subordinates 4 6 7 12.

Xu Xin eventually entered the Ghost Shadow Kingdom, learned of its nine Ghost Shadow Legions, inherited Tarak’s combat techniques, and fought its generals to gain control over its dark energy 25 38 83 110. After completing Tarak’s trials, he became increasingly connected to the kingdom and later ascended to godhood 164 396.

At his coronation, Xiao Yu acknowledged Xu Xin as the Ghost Shadow Kingdom’s successor. Tarak merged with him, and Ah Yin was crowned his Empress Consort 404.

Appearance

Xu Xin first appears as a six-year-old boy with a small, underfed body due to his difficult upbringing 1. His appearance changes drastically while using Tara Form.

Personality

Xu Xin is ambitious, calculating, and strongly motivated by the need for power. From childhood, he sees strength as the means to change the rules governing the weak and to decide his own fate 3. He plans far ahead, exploits his knowledge of future events, and often manipulates circumstances or people to strengthen Shadow Hall 2 18 119.

He is generous toward those he considers his own. Xu Xin provides Immortal Herbs, masks, cultivation methods, and protection to his allies, while placing considerable trust in loyal subordinates 12 82 183. His concern for Ah Yin, Liu Erlong, Bibi Dong, and other members of Shadow Hall contrasts sharply with his ruthlessness toward enemies 46 155 202.

Xu Xin can also be cruel and theatrical when confronting opponents. He deliberately humiliates Yu Xiao Gang, outmaneuvers Tang Hao rather than confronting him directly, and gives Flender an impossible choice after defeating him 18 96 202.
