The Ghoul Realm was roughly divided into grasslands and deserts, each occupying half its territory, yet the two were utterly different.
In truth, the original Ghoul Realm had been covered in such grasslands. However, during their growth, a large portion of its creatures were ruled by their appetite for consumption and lost their hearts. They wanted to turn everything into food, and without strict management in the beginning, nearly half the land's vitality was wiped out, forming barren regions where survival was impossible.
At the time, however, the land had not yet completely turned into desert. It had merely been a vast stretch of impoverished soil.
At this point, Ghoul Imperial, the Ghoul Realm's sole Heroic Spirit, attempted to unify the realm. Naturally, many opposed him, and the Ghoul Realm split into two factions that fought an internal war.
In the end, Ghoul Imperial killed more than two-thirds of the opposing Ghoul Realm creatures by himself. The war concluded with a crushing victory for his side, which had suffered losses of less than one-tenth.
To prevent the minds of his subjects from being affected after they consumed the opponents, Ghoul Imperial ordered all rebel corpses thrown into the barren region and left to be eroded by wind and sand. In the end, those tens of millions of corpses turned to dust and merged with the impoverished soil, becoming grains of sand and creating this scene.
Thus, even though this "Land of the Dead of the Opponents" belonged to the Ghoul Realm, Ghoul Imperial never set foot there.
